Yuri Lotman on the work

quote. Soviet literary. Yuri Lotman. :.

Not for the sake of showing off, but just trusting your good feelings I confess to you that my very deep personal feeling - a feeling of unworthiness. That's OK, I'm not God knows what level of creative person, but imagine working condition of anyone implicated in a creative profession, as a chain of these experiences. First comes something that is very reminiscent of those feelings which, perhaps, there is a chicken, which is going to carry the egg. It is a state of hope. Then the chicken, the price of the stress and effort, it throws an egg from a. And you may happen to be a witness to that state of euphoria, which it covers at the moment. As one American humorist, she screams as if the egg is not demolished, but a small planet. The same euphoria experienced every person who made the difficult, born of his work. And then he sees that blew the egg, which is no better than a huge number of other eggs, and that the world remains the same. He probably would not have carried the eggs, if I could not do. But he was destined to go through the same hopes and the same frustrations. However, the form of chicken, with an air of importance taught his contemporaries the right way to lay eggs, probably would have been comical.

Many poets, from Goethe to feta, and in verse and prose were told that would not be writing poetry, if they could not do. Similarly, many scholars, even knowing the consequences of the atomic bomb, can not carry the egg if it has matured in their body. Therefore, to be pessimistic as old and useless as to be an optimist. We are doomed to our work. Can only hope that if not us, it becomes clear to others the meaning and purpose of our work.

Myself and you, my friends, I wish to pay more attention to creativity in all its manifestations.
